One important topic that is overlooked is how students carry heavy backpacks to school every day. Did you know that the maximum healthy backpack weight is 10–15% of your child's weight?! (For most elementary school kids, this equates to about 1–2 textbooks.)
One of the major reasons is the stress heavy backpacks put on developing spinal joints. When increased stress patterns are put on these joints, it makes them more prone to subluxation and back pain. Even more so, when kids are wearing only one strap backpacks or saddle-bags!!
So, do your kids a favor: Lighten their backpack load to allow for a properly functioning spine for years to come. They'll thank you for it when they grow up!
