Chiropractic as a profession dates all the way back to September 1895. As the story goes, a magnetic healer in Davenport, IA was having a conversation with the building janitor, Harvey Lillard.
While talking, the janitor told DD Palmer that 17 years earlier he had bent over,
felt a 'pop' in his spine and went deaf in one ear.
Dr. Palmer concluded that the two events were related. After careful examination of Mr. Lillard's spine, Dr. Palmer found a misaligned vertebra and
adjusted it back into place. Immediately following, Mr. Lillard's hearing was
restored, and chiropractic was born!
From Palmer's extensive training in anatomy and physiology (the science of
how the body works), he concluded that the spine was the root of Mr. Lillard's
health concern. Through the years, the chiropractic profession has developed into the largest drugless healing profession in the world, but the premise remains the same: nerve interference in the spine can and will decrease one's ability to heal and express health optimally!
